Curly Q's
It's been a while. Hello, blog. You keep me sane yet somehow I manage to ignore you. I apologize.
What is it about the written word that I find so attractive? When some people can use such a grand vocabulary and others can speak so eloquently, I find it easiest to speak in my average voice with average words, but I prefer to put them on paper. Is that because I like my handwriting? Of all things to be complemented on in my lifetime, my handwriting is one that I hear the most often. One of my most favorite compliments of all time came in creative writing class during junior year of high school- "Your handwriting should be a font on the computer." I feel as though I was born to be a teacher just because I create my letters the correct way; they reach from headline to baseline when necessary and even dip into the basement when needed. Many people have wonderful handwriting, but not that can be easily read by a child. Our squiggles and dots and lines come together in a way that describes our own individual personalities. When our handwriting changes it's usually because we are being rushed or our attitude on the subject being written has changed as well. Writing about a boring topic in class and rushing to get everything the professor said down on paper? Messy. Writing a poster to be hung up for many people to see? Neat. Neat-o, dude! I find personal strength in my words- written words, which is partly why I'm in love with this blog- because I can just let my words flow freely. That doesn't mean I don't get writer's block or run out of good topics to discuss on here. Who wants to read a blog about handwriting anyway? One thing that I am drawn to are positive, motivational, and wonderful words in the form of quotes. Whether I get these quotes online, from a fortune cookie, from a mug, from a wall hanging, from the inside of a beer bottle cap it does not matter. I am drawn, obsessively by positive quotes. I find I have an obsession with words, with other people's words, with beautiful words, with poems and greeting cards and essays and memoirs. A dream of mine would be to write a memoir- but on what? I've always envisioned calling it "A Day in the Life of an Average Girl" because I believe I live my life by the status quo, on the surface level, yet humbly and happily. And I don't see anything wrong with that. I'm just being me and I'm pleased, though highly stressed currently, with where my life has taken me. Relatively speaking, I think I've done something right. Not everything, but some things. No shame there! I'll keep the blogs, quotes, and dreams of a memoir alive. And if all else fails, at least I have neat handwriting.
